Lamprey Wild and Scenic River

The Lamprey River was originally designated on November 12, 1996 with 11.5 ‘Recreational’ miles, four years later another 12 miles were added on May 2, 2000. The Lamprey River starts in the Saddleback Mountains in Northwood, New Hampshire and flows into the Great Bay. This special river is rich in freshwater mussels and has the largest quantity of anadromous fish in the Great Bay Watershed. The wetlands of the river also supply crucial wildlife habitat and offer unique ecosystems. In addition to many conservation accomplishments, the Lamprey River Advisory Committee has helped to conserve more than 3,743 acres and 16.3 miles of river frontage.
