The National Park Service (NPS) will enhance and grow the Yellowstone Bison Conservation Transfer Program to increase collaboration with Tribes and increase the number of Yellowstone bison available to them and to broad bison conservation initiatives.

Why? The NPS is committed to transferring healthy bison to Tribes. By expanding quarantine facilities and procedures, more bison can be transferred to Tribes, thereby supporting their cultural and ecological needs while promoting shared stewardship of bison by parks and Tribal partners.

What else? In collaboration with the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, the State of Montana, and the Assiniboine and Sioux Tribes of Fort Peck, the NPS will help conserve wild, healthy bison.
