Springfield Woods Local Leader Legacies

Springfield Woods is a vibrant urban forest in Baltimore City, thanks to the efforts of community members who rescued it from decline caused by trash dumping and invasive species. Baltimore Green Space's project will honor community member Butch Berry’s vision, which included telling stories of the people whose lives were enriched by the forest and the rich Black history of the neighborhood. Plans for a new accessible trail system and interpretive signage will transform the woods into a storytelling landscape with an equity focus, making Springfield Woods a place that celebrates not only the thriving flora and fauna of the forest community but also the community of people for whom the forest has been so important.
