Canaveral National Seashore Set to Repair and Preserve Roads and Parking Areas in Apollo Beach District

Canaveral National Seashore, FL – Canaveral National Seashore, Apollo Beach district will begin a Federal Highways pavement preservation project on April 28th, 2025. Visitors to the seashore should expect limited access to some parking areas and roadways to include the Visitor Center and the boat ramp. Seashore staff and informational signs will have daily access information as it is available. We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience as we strive to improve the infrastructure of Canaveral National Seashore. The first parking areas where construction will begin is #5 progressing north to boat ramp and #1.

Shenandoah National Park is working with utility partners to upgrade infrastructure and complete a project for the Big Meadows area water system. The work will impact visitor services in the Big Meadows area (mile 51).
High-elevation roads reopen after historic August 2023 flood

Death Valley National Park and Federal Highway Administration have reopened Emigrant Canyon Road, a key high-elevation route that is a popular access point for cooler summer recreation. The road suffered heavy damage following a severe flash flood in August 2023. Temporary fixes allowed it to reopen after a few months but left it vulnerable to wear and tear and further flooding.

The National Park Service (NPS), in partnership with Friends of the Smokies, is beginning a multi-year rehabilitation of the iconic Bullhead Trail in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Beginning May 5, the park will close Bullhead Trail from Monday through Thursday each week, excluding federal holidays, through November 6, 2025.

Mineral King Road construction closures and delays in place through 2027

A major rehabilitation construction project for Mineral King Road in Sequoia National Park began on April 1 this year and is planned to continue through the fall of 2027. Work will happen year-round, although this area of the parks is only open to public vehicle traffic from late May through October annually. Most visitors who come to the parks will not be impacted by this project, as the Mineral King Road turnoff from Highway 198 is located two miles prior to the main entrance of Sequoia National Park.
