"Sister Park" partnerships provide unique opportunities to share information, collaborate on research, and engage communities in both countries. The US and Mexico's shared ecosystems and shared history make Sister Park programs in the border remarkably meaningful. The Southwest Border Resource Protection Program helps parks initiate and maintain these programs by facilitating meetings and coordinating international travel for NPS staff. NPS staff in the Intermountain Region planning international travel should contact us.
Currently, ten border-area NPS units have Sister Park relationships with protected areas in Mexico:
Big Bend National Park | Maderas del Carmen & Canon de Santa Elena Flora and Fauna Protected Areas |
Casa Grande National Monument | Paquime Archaeological Zone |
Chiricahua National Monument & Coronado National Memorial | Ajos-Bavispe Conservation Area & Sierra de Alamos Biosphere Reserve |
