Whiskeytown National Recreation has a new reservation service for Dry Creek Group Campground and Whiskey Creek Group Picnic Area.  Beginning Wednesday, February 7, visitors wishing to make reservations for those two areas can place a toll-free call to the National Recreation Reservation Service at 1-877-444-6777.  Reservations can also be made at their new website, www.Recreation.gov

On February 7, the National Recreation Reservation Service (NRRS) is expanding its services to include many national park units such as Whiskeytown.  The NRRS already handles reservations for the Forest Service, the Army Corps of Engineers, and the Bureau of Land Management.  Campgrounds at Lassen Volcanic National Park will also be available on this system.

Dry Creek Group Campground is open from April 1 to October 31 and features two sites which each rent for $75 per night.  A minimum of 20 campers and a maximum of 50 are allowed at each site.  The campground is situated on a tree-shaded peninsula just past Brandy Creek Marina and is popular with large family groups who enjoy water activities.  Boats may be launched at the marina and moored at your campsite overnight.

Whiskey Creek Group Picnic Area is also available from April 1 to October 31 and has three sites which cost $40 to $50 each.  All three sites can be rented at one time for large group activities, such as company picnics and family reunions.  The area is for daytime use only, and since it is a designated swim beach, no alcohol or pets are allowed.

Whiskeytown Superintendent Jim Milestone urges interested visitors to make their reservations as soon as possible – the NRRS has a six-month “booking window”, which means that if you want one of those areas for the Fourth of July, you can call as early as February 7 to assure your camping or picnic spot.  Both Dry Creek and Whiskey Creek fill up very quickly, and the weekend dates are especially popular.
