On April 5, 1996, President Bill Clinton and First Lady Hillary Clinton planted a flowering dogwood tree on the South Grounds. The tree is dedicated to the memory of Secretary of Commerce Ron Brown, who was killed in a plane crash over Croatia with six U.S. military service members, and 26 other Americans.
