April 28, 1978

President Jimmy Carter planted a Cedar of Lebanon tree on the South Grounds center panel on April 28, 1978, in celebration of Arbor Day. The tree, which symbolizes the strength, beauty, and peace of the country of Lebanon and its rich heritage, also represents the friendship between Lebanon and the United States.
