A reclusive American painter known for his magical, romantic, and symbolic imagery; Ryder was a frequent guest at Weir Farm.

Weir befriended Sargent while studying in Paris in 1874. Sargent became the foremost portraitist of his generation.

John Ferguson Weir (1841 - 1926)

One of Julian's 15 siblings, John was a painter and sculptor, who served as the first director of the Yale University School of Fine Art.

A well-rounded artist and student of the Arts Student League, Caro Weir Ely is best known for her hand-tooled book bindings and etchings.

Born in Salt Lake City, Mahonri Young married Dorothy Weir in 1931. His work ranged from large monuments to intimate sketches of daily life.

Dorothy Weir Young (1890 - 1947)

Weir’s daughter Dorothy studied at the National Academy of Design and was a member of the National Asso. of Women Painters and Sculptors.

Sperry Andrews (1917 - 2005)
Sperry Andrews (1917 - 2005)

Sperry and his wife Doris moved to Weir Farm in 1957. They painted the landscape and became stewards and champions of the property.

Doris Andrews (1920 - 2003)

Doris Andrews grew up in Kentucky and later studied watercolor painting at the Arts Student League in New York.
