Ranger-led Programs & Events

There’s lots of ways to connect with your urban national monument! Because we currently don’t have visitor facilities, we offer limited on-site ranger-led programming and special events. Please check our events calendar to find updated events and programs. We do not currently offer on-site programs during the summer months due to high temperatures.

National Fossil Day Event: Pleistocene Palooza

Pleistocene Palooza is an annual, interactive outdoor event for fossil enthusiasts of all ages, featuring live animals and a junior paleontologist program. Visitors can catch a glimpse of Ice Age Las Vegas--Pleistocene fossils will come alive as visitors meet representative animals that live today. National Park Service staff, volunteers, and partners showcase the science behind the scenes that helps us understand past life and environments, and how they relate to today. This event is in celebration of National Fossil Day, an annual celebration held in October to highlight the scientific and educational value of paleontology and the importance of preserving fossils for future generations.

B.A.R.K. Ranger Hikes

Come on a Ranger-led hike with your canine companion! This hike introduces the B.A.R.K. principles to learn how to have a safe and positive experience with your dog at the monument. At the conclusion of the hike, the pups are sworn in as official Tule Springs Fossil Beds B.A.R.K. Rangers. These hikes are usually about 1.5-2.5 miles long and advanced signup is always required. These hikes are recommended for dogs who are not reactive.

Urban Astronomy Night Sky Programs

The Monument’s Night Sky programs aims to share stargazing experiences with the urban communities surrounding Tule Springs Fossil Beds. Many cities across the globe experience light pollution—the collective effect of artificial lights that make objects in the night sky difficult to see. This program was developed to encourage connections to the natural world without leaving the city.

Ranger-Guided Hikes

Join us on Ranger-led hikes to explore the natural history of Tule Springs Fossil Beds. These hikes are usually about 1.5-3.0 miles long and advanced signup is always required. There is no shade nor rest areas along guided hikes at this time.

Junior Ranger Day

Held during National Park Week in April, Junior Ranger Day is a chance for young and young-at-heart visitors to be sworn in as official Tule Springs Fossil Beds Junior Rangers. No matter what age you are, you are invited to explore, learn, and protect on National Junior Ranger Day!
