The Theodore Roosevelt Area is located in Jacksonville, Florida about 14 miles northeast of downtown. The Theodore Roosevelt Area is associated with Fort Caroline National Memorial. More information about the Theodore Roosevelt Area, including park and trail maps, can be picked up at Fort Caroline.

From I-95 north of Jacksonville: Traveling from the north via Interstate 95, exit at Florida Route 9A (Exit #362). Route 9A crosses the St. Johns River via the Napoleon Bonaparte Broward bridge at Dames Point. Exit at Monument Road, follow the brown signs to the left, and travel to Fort Caroline Road. Turn right. It is less than one mile to the Theodore Roosevelt Area; the entrance will be on your left.

From I-95 south of Jacksonville: Traveling up the east coast of Florida from the south via Interstate 95, leave I-95 at Florida Route 9A (Exit #337). Follow 9A to Monument Road. Exit at Monument Road, follow the brown signs to the right, and travel to Fort Caroline Road.  Turn right. It is less than one mile to the Theodore Roosevelt Area; the entrance will be on your left. Please note: Portions of 9A are still under construction, there may be some delays.

From A1A at the Jacksonville Beaches: From Florida Route A1A and the Jacksonville area beaches, travel west on Atlantic Boulevard and, after crossing the Intracoastal Waterway, turn right on Girvin Road. Take Girvin Road to the light at Wonderwood, turn left. Turn right at the light at Mount Pleasant Road. Continue on Mt. Pleasant Road until you see brown sign for the Theodore Roosevelt Area (trailhead parking) on your right.

From A1A from Amelia Island: Take AIA south. A1A becomes Heckscher Drive (FL 105) at the St. Johns River Ferry Landing. At this point you have two options: 1. Continue on Heckscher Drive until you reach 9A. Take 9A south. Exit at Monument Road and turn left. Follow signs. At the light at Fort Caroline Road, turn right. It is less than one mile to the Theodore Roosevelt Area; the entrance will be on your right. 2. Take St. Johns River Ferry (A1A) to south side of river. Follow A1A to Wonderwood Expressway, turn right. At light at Mt. Pleasant Road, turn right. The entrance to the Theodore Roosevelt Area (trailhead parking) will be on your right.

From Downtown Jacksonville: From Downtown Jacksonville, take Union Street to the Mathews Bridge to the Arlington Expressway to Atlantic Boulevard, eastbound. Regency Square Mall will be on your left. Turn left after the mall on Monument Road, and travel approximately five miles to Fort Caroline Road. Turn right. The entrance to the Theodore Roosevelt Area (trailhead parking) will be less than one mile on your left.

Transportation Options: Jacksonville International Airport is northwest of the park. Jacksonville is served by Amtrak and by Greyhound Bus lines. Personal or rental vehicles are required to reach the park.

Did You Know?
One of the Huguenot inhabitants of la Caroline had the surname of "DuVal.” Jacksonville, Florida, where the national memorial is located, is within Duval County which is named for Florida's first civilian territorial governor, William Pope Duval, a Huguenot descendant.
