Thing to Do
Discover Theodore Roosevelt Island
Popular activities include wildlife viewing, canoeing, kayaking, and running or walking through a variety of trails. Ranger-led programs are another great way to get the inside story on Theodore Roosevelt Island, whether you are a local who visits every day or a tourist in town for a few hours. Check the calendar to find out when and where to meet for programs.
You may bring your pet with you to the park. With the exception of service animals, pets are not permitted on ranger-led programs. Pets must be restrained on a leash no longer that six feet long. Pet owners are responsible for picking up pet waste and disposing of it at home.
Drivers can only reach Theodore Roosevelt Island from the northbound lanes of the George Washington Memorial Parkway. After Memorial Bridge, follow the sign to turn right into the parking lot.
The park can be reached on foot or by bicycle from the Mount Vernon Trail and the Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail.
Restrooms on the island close for the winter, usually from October to April. During this time a portable toilet is located near the restrooms.
