The March Route

The Selma to Montgomery National Historic Trail follows the actual march route which began at Brown Chapel African Methodist Episcopal (A.M.E.) Church in Selma, AL, located at 410 Martin Luther King, Jr. Street. Follow the Trail markers to U.S. Hwy. 80 East through Lowndes County, AL. Continue on U.S. Hwy. 80 East to Highway 31 North. Follow Highway 31 North to Fairview Ave. to the City of St. Jude. From the City of St. Jude, follow trail markers into downtown Montgomery. The route concludes at the Alabama State Capitol in Montgomery, AL, located on Dexter Avenue.

The Selma to Montgomery National Historic Trail consists of three National Park Service Interpretive Centers: The Lowndes Interpretive Center in White Hall, AL, the Selma Interpretive Center in Selma, AL, and the Montgomery Interpretive Center, in Montgomery, AL on the campus of Alabama State University.

Getting to the Montgomery Interpretive Center:

From Montgomery, AL take I-85 to Exit 2 Forest Ave. Take Glen Palmer Ave. to Harris Way. The center will be on the left; OR from I-65 N/S, take exit 170 Fairview Ave. West to Norman Bridge Rd. and turn left on S. Decatur St. Continue to Carter Hill Rd. and turn left on Harris Way. The center will be on the left on the campus of Alabama State University.

From Birmingham, AL follow I-65 S to I-85 E. Take exit 2 Forest Ave. Take Glen Palmer Ave. to Harris Way onto the campus of Alabama State University. The center will be on the left.

From Atlanta, GA follow I-85 W. Take exit 2 Forest Ave. Take Glen Palmer Ave. to Harris Way onto the campus of Alabama State University. The center will be on the left.

Getting to the Lowndes Interpretive Center:

From Montgomery, AL take U.S. Hwy. 80 W. 25 miles to White Hall, AL. The Lowndes Interpretive Center is located at 7002 U.S. Hwy. 80 West, in White Hall, AL.

From Birmingham, AL follow I-65 S. to Montgomery, AL. Turn off at exit 167 to U.S. Hwy. 80 W. and travel 25 miles to White Hall, AL. The Lowndes Interpretive Center is located at 7002 U.S. Hwy. 80 W., in White Hall, AL.

From Atlanta, GA take I-85 S. to Montgomery. Merge onto I-65 S. to exit onto U.S. Hwy. 80 W. and travel 25 miles to White Hall, AL. The Lowndes Interpretive Center is located at 7002 U.S. Hwy. 80 West, in White Hall, AL.

Getting to the Selma Interpretive Center:

From Montgomery, AL take U.S. Hwy. 80 W. approximately 51 miles to Selma, AL. The Selma Interpretive Center is located at 2 Broad St., Selma, AL at the base of the Edmund Pettus Bridge.

From Birmingham, AL follow I-65 S. and take Exit 234 to County Road 87 to Calera, AL. Take Spring Creek Rd. to AL-25 S in Montevallo, AL. Continue on AL-25 S to AL-139 S to Maplesville, AL. Merge onto AL-22 W in Maplesville and follow into Selma to 2 Broad St. The center will be on the left at the foot of the Edmund Pettus Bridge.

From Atlanta, GA take I-85 S. to Montgomery, AL. Merge onto I-65 S. and turn off at exit 167 to U.S. Hwy. 80 W. Continue for approximately 51 miles to Selma, AL. The Selma Interpretive Center is located at 2 Broad St., Selma, ALat the base of the Edmund Pettus Bridge.

By Plane

Visitors may fly into the Montgomery Regional Airport, located on the trail route. After arriving at the airport follow the driving directions below to the Interpretive Centers.
