Sand Creek Massacre National Historic Site
Operating Hours & Seasons

Sand Creek Massacre National Historic Site is open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily. The site closes for the season December 1st through April 1st.

Camping is not allowed at the site.

Caution Large Vehicles and Mototcyclists: There is approximately eight (8) miles of dirt/sand roads leading otthe site.

To schedule a visit between December 1st and April 1st, call or write the park at least two (2) weeks in advance. Access will be determined by availability of staff and forcasted weather conditions.

Did You Know?
From 1821 to the late 1880s, the Santa Fe Trail was a major commerce route from Independence, MO to Santa Fe, NM. The route took traders six weeks to traverse in oftentimes inhospitable conditions. Today visitors to the park can see remains of this trade route when they walk the park ruins trail.
