Discover your hidden talents, learn to sculpt at the home of one of America’s greatest artists. Create a portrait relief, a design for a new coin, or a figure in the round. Learn how to make a mold, cast your sculpture, and then finish the surface to look like bronze. Classes are co-sponsored by Saint-Gaudens National Historic Site and the Friends of the Saint-Gaudens Memorial.
Beginning workshops on figurative sculpture are available for adults (ages 16 and up) and young adults (ages 13-15). Participants will learn the basics of the sculpture process and how to sculpt with clay. Everyone will work on a sculpture of their own.
Children's workshop (ages 5-10). Participants will make a three-dimensional plaster cast of their hand.
Advanced workshops are a follow up to the beginning workshop, or for those with some knowledge of the sculpture process.
Special workshops are offered on Casting and Mold Making. Participants will cast their own art work. A class on Patination will cover methods to make a plaster cast appear like bronze.
Reservations for workshops must be made in advance. Classes meet from 1:00-4:00 p.m. Clay and tools are provided. Young adults' workshops are $20 each. Adult and Advanced $30, Rubber Mold Making, $60 and Portrait Head class series, $120. A discount is offered to members of the Friends of the Saint-Gaudens Memorial.
