Elam Camp Backcountry Access & Information

Elam Camp Rules & Regulations

  • Food Security & Bears - All food items, cooking utensils, bathrooms items, or anything with a smell must always be kept secure in the food storage locker (unless actively using or cooking). Never feed wildlife!
  • Water - No treated water source available - pack in drinking water or filter/purify water from nearby Redwood Creek tributaries.

  • Fires - Fires are allowed within the fire rings at each site. You are not allowed to have fires outside of these rings. You can collect up to 50 pounds of dead and downed wood per day for campfire use only. Please do not leave campfires unattended or smoldering.
  • Human Waste Disposal - Pit toilets for human waste only—do not dispose of garbage in toilets. Pack out all trash/garbage when leaving camp.
  • Practice Leave No Trace Principles. Please pack out what you packed in, including toilet paper!

  • PLEASE remember to lock your vehicle, take valuables with you, and leave nothing in sight.
  • Seasonal footbridges have not been placed over Redwood Creek. Steam crossings can only be done on foot. Be careful, you will get wet!

Parking at Redwood Creek Trailhead

  • The parking area is located off of Bald Hills Road. Just a bit up Bald Hills Road you will see a paved road to the right, with a sign for Redwood Creek Trailhead, take this road to the trailhead parking area.
  • It is a 3-mile hike into this camp from where you park your vehicle.
  • Seasonal footbridges have not been placed over Redwood Creek. Steam crossings can only be done on foot. Be careful, you will get wet!
 

Parking at Tall Trees Trailhead

  • The parking area is located off of the Tall Trees Access Road, which is a 6-mile long gravel road. A permit is required for this road and is included with this email.

  • It is a 7-mile hike into this camp from where you park your vehicle.
  • Seasonal footbridges have not been placed over Redwood Creek. Steam crossings can only be done on foot. Be careful, you will get wet!
 

Parking at Orick Horse Trailhead

  • The parking area is located off Drydens Road in the town of Orick. Orick School sits on the corner of Drydens Road, follow the road past the school, as the road turns left you will see the gravel parking area up on the left.
  • It is a 6-mile hike into this camp from where you park your vehicle.
  • Tall Trees Grove is not accessible from this backcountry camp due to the high-water levels on Redwood Creek.
