Cal Poly Humboldt is a comprehensive, residential campus of the California State University. It is located in Arcata - 35 miles south of Redwood National and State Parks. (In 2022 Humboldt State University changed it's name to Cal Poly Humboldt)

Cal Poly Humboldt welcomes students from California and the world to it's campus. It is a park partner for many reasons, one of them is that Cal Poly Humboldt serves it's student community by providing a wide array of programs and activities that promote understanding of social, economic and environmental issues. Much in-park research is conducted by Cal Poly Humboldt students and faculty, as well as providing the park tremendous amounts of research material and curatorial collections. Many seasonal, term, and permanent park employees are Cal Poly Humboldt / HSU students and graduates.

Library Special Collections

Cal Poly Humboldt Library Special Collections is the premier research center for the study of the primary industries, Native peoples, and natural resources of northwestern California. Researchers visit from around the world to see original maps, photographs, diaries, and manuscript collections documenting this unique region. One of the collection strengths is the history of Northern California lumber industries and the history of Redwood National Park.

As part of Redwood National Park's 50th anniversary (2018), HSU Special Collections developed an internship program in partnership with the Redwood National Park to make collections related to the redwoods more available to the public. Eighteen Library Interns worked together to create a database of digitized material and digital exhibits to highlight the collections, research and history of Redwood National Park. The digital collection “Researching the Redwoods” is now available to the public.
