Pu‘ukohola Heiau is a National Historic Site administered by the National Park Service and held in stewardship for the common benefit for Hawaiian people, for people of the United States, and for the world.

Heiau are temples of which there are two major orders: the agricultural and economy-related ones and the large sacrificial war temples. Human lives were taken on the war heiau. Pu’ukohola Heiau is one such temple.
