Information on Presidio history and points of interest in the park is available at the Visitor Center, temporarily located in the Officers' Club, Building 50, on Moraga Avenue near Arguello Boulevard. In addition to rotating exhibits, the Visitor Center houses a bookstore.

The Visitor Center is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years days. Phone (415) 561-4323.

Did You Know?
Major Jonathan Letterman--after whom the hospital at the Presidio was renamed in 1911--was the medical director of the Army of the Potomac. A founding father of military medicine, Letterman organized forward first-aid stations, mobile field hospitals, and ambulance services during the Civil War.
