2018–2019 Point Reyes Lighthouse Restoration

Three structures—a tower, a large rectangular building, and a small square structure—sit on a rocky headland above the Pacific Ocean. The roof and rafters of the lighthouse tower have been removed and scaffolding and white fabric surrounds the tower.
By early December 2018, contractors had surrounded the lighthouse tower in a nylon "shroud," which provides several protective measures, including protecting the cast iron tower from rain and salt spray. Scroll down to the bottom of the page to see more images of the restoration project. Please note that park staff and contractors took the photos included on this page and in the photo gallery.

About This Blog

In the summer of 2018, Point Reyes National Seashore undertook a large restoration project on the historic Point Reyes Lighthouse. During this project, all areas beyond (e.g., west of) the Point Reyes Lighthouse's visitors' parking lot—including the visitor center, the lighthouse and the stairs leading down to the lighthouse—were closed to all entry. The lighthouse area reopened to the public on Friday, November 8, 2019.

All Areas Beyond the Lighthouse Visitors' Parking Lot are Now Closed.

All areas beyond (e.g., west of) the Point Reyes Lighthouse's visitors' parking lot are closed until ~October 6, including the lighthouse. The lighthouse is not visible from the parking lot.
