Description
Join Shiloh Park Rangers, living historians, and the Hardin County Visitor and Convention Bureau as we celebrate the establishment of Shiloh Battlefield as a National Military Park. On Friday, December 27, Shiloh National Military Park will commemorate the 130th anniversary of President Grover Cleveland signing into law the legislation creating Shiloh National Military Park.
This year’s birthday event will include, refreshments, a ranger program, and a twilight cannon firing demonstration on the battlefield. Join rangers and living historians in the Peach Orchard (Tour Stop #18). The event will begin with a twilight cannon firing will take place at 5:00 p.m. with park’s six-pounder Field Piece being fired twice during the demonstration. This “low light” firing demonstration should provide a unique photo opportunity for visitors.
Following the firing demonstration, ranger Anthony Killion will present a ranger talk and power point presentation outdoors on the big screen next to the War Cabin! The presentation will discuss the founding of Shiloh National Military Park by veterans of the battle. Hardin County Tourism will be providing hot chocolate and birthday treats in honor of the occasion. Refreshments will be available starting at 4:50 p.m. inside the War Cabin.
Parking will be available at Tour Stop #18 and in the open field across from the Peach Orchard. It is recommended that visitors bring lawn chairs. Also, note that there will be a walk of about 100 yards from the parking area to the War Cabin and demonstration area over level ground.
