Welcome to Peninsula, a national historic district in the heart of Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Since the Canal Era, Peninsula has been a place for travelers to stop, rest, dine, and shop. In view to your right lies the Peninsula Depot, also painted a deep red with white trim. Just like a century ago, visitors can still purchase tickets here to ride what is now Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad. In front of you are the Peninsula restrooms. Adjacent to this spot, there once was a pumping station. It supplied river water to the steam trains of the former Valley Railway. Both buildings are among the village’s many historic structures. Beyond the depot is Trail Mix Peninsula, operated by our national park friends’ group. An outdoor kiosk features a map of local businesses. Step inside to get information, refresh, and find souvenirs.

From here, visitors can access four popular long-distance trails. The Towpath Trail and the Cuyahoga River Water Trail are behind you at Lock 29 Trailhead. You can also connect to the Buckeye Trail which follows the Towpath Trail south in this section. North on the Buckeye links you to the Valley Trail at nearby Pine Lane Trailhead.

Peninsula can be busy with traffic of all kinds. There are people strolling and riding bicycles, as well as the train and other vehicles. Use extra caution as you explore and only cross the tracks in marked crossings.
