Gulf Islands National Seashore protects historical heritage and ever-changing features of the Gulf Coast-salt marshes, marine woodlands, sparkling white beaches, and coastal waters. The seashore includes several islands and portions of the mainland.

The Opal Beach Complex is located along Highway 399 between Pensacola Beach and Navarre Beach, provides access to one of the park's greatest treasures, Opal Beach. This is a great place to fish, swim, and picnic. Parking, restrooms, pavilions, and beach showers are available both Gulf-side and sound-side.

Visitors must pay an entrance fee or display a park pass to use this area. Passes are good for seven days and can be purchased at the park entrance stations or online. For more frequent visitors, the national seashore offers an annual pass providing 12-months of unlimited entries into all of the park's areas.
