Bright Angel Point

A partly cloudy sky casts shadows on the canyon landscape while sunlight highlights nearby cliffs.
A popular spot for sunset, the canyon's many ridges and peaks catch the light of the setting sun.

As of Friday, June 21, 2024, the Bright Angel Point Trail on the North Rim —leading from Grand Canyon Lodge to Bright Angel Point —is now closed for construction. This closure is necessary for the protection of staff and visiting public during an extensive repair effort to the Trail. For additional information read the news release: 6/13/2024

Bright Angel Point, the most popular viewpoint on the North Rim, is accessed from a steep, paved trail which begins near Grand Canyon Lodge. Just a quarter-mile from the lodge area, it is often the first scenic viewpoint that visitors experience after their arrival at the North Rim. Take your time if you are not used to higher elevations.

Enjoy the expansive view from the viewpoint at the end of the short trail, named after the Bright Angel Creek hidden far below. Over 1,000 feet (300 meters) higher than the South Rim of Grand Canyon, the point offers an excellent view of Bright Angel Canyon to the east, Transept Canyon to the west, and the intensely carved erosional formations within the canyon that are characteristic of the North Rim. On quiet days, you can hear Roaring Springs, car below within Bright Angel Canyon, gushing out of a cliff face 3,100 feet (950 meters) below the rim. A sharp eye can spot the power lines that run down to the spring, which power pumps that push fresh water back up to the North Rim.
