Feeling cooped up? Get outside at Egg-stravaganza!

Join us to celebrate the arrival of spring. Participate in an egg scavenger hunt. Paint and decorate an egg to take home. Read stories with a Park Ranger. Sing along with the Uncle Devin Band or Silly Goose and Val. Learn all about eggs, chickens, and birds of all kinds. Meet birds of prey up close.

This event is free of charge and does not require a reservation.

Live entertainment

Silly Goose and Val
11:00 AM

Award-winning artist, Valerie Leonhart Smalkin and Silly Goose present a fast-paced, humorous 40-minute musical treat with puppets, storytelling, ventriloquism, dancing, singing, and 100% audience participation. A recipient of multiple Maryland State Arts Council Grants for theatre performance and non-classical composition, Val and her friends will delight the child with and within you!

Raptor Show
with Secret Garden Birds and Bees
12:30 PM

Live hawks, owls, and tiny falcon will help tell you about the exciting birds of prey living right in your own backyard, the challenges they face, and what we can all do to help them thrive. You might even get to take a selfie with your favorite raptor!

Uncle Devin Band
2:00 PM

The Uncle Devin Show is an interactive, musical experience for children by renowned drummer and percussionist, Devin Walker. The show cultivates the minds of children through percussion instruments and is a dynamic cross between DC’s Trouble Funk and Schoolhouse Rock!

All-Day Activities

Guided Bird Walk
10:00 and 1:15

Learn the basics of birding and get to know some of the common birds of Oxon Hill Farm. An experienced birder will lead this guided bird walk through the scenic country paths of the park. Visitors will use their eyes and ears to find our chirping friends and learn to identify them. A limited number of binoculars will be available to borrow.

Egg Scavenger Hunt
10:00-3:00

This isn't your traditional egg hunt! Instead of looking for eggs willy-nilly, participants will follow a series of clues to find nests of eggs from local birds. Goody bags will be available for the first 300 participants.

Egg Painting
10:00-3:00

Embrace your creative side! Paint and decorate a wooden egg to take home

Read with a Ranger
10:30, 11:30, 12:30, 1:30, and 2:30

Biking to Oxon Hill Farm

Bicycle racks are provided in the parking lot at Oxon Hill Farm. There is a Capital Bikeshare station at the Oxon Hill Park and Ride. Check out the Hiker-Biker trail within the park which connects to the Forest Heights, Southeast DC, and National Harbor neighborhoods. 

Parking is limited at Oxon Hill Farm. Please consider parking at the Oxon Hill Park and Ride and walking over. The walk is about half a mile. A shuttle will be available. If the on-site lot is full when you arrive, you will be directed to the Park and Ride. 

Directions to Oxon Hill Park and Ride from Oxon Hill Farm 

  • Head southeast on Bald Eagle Road towards Oxon Hill Rd 

  • Turn right on Oxon Hill Rd 

  • Turn left on Monument Ave 

  • Turn left into parking lot
