Community Workshops a Success!
In March, Northern Rio Grande National Heritage Area, Inc sponsored six community workshops to gather comments on key goals and strategies to support development of a comprehensive plan for the region.
Mrs. Mary Trujillo Mascareñas, President of the NRGNHA, Inc Board of Directors, stated "Local communities have assumed ownership of this community planning process from the beginning. We all got excited with the idea that we would no longer be one of America's best kept secrets. The Spanish, Indian and Anglo communities in thia area are unique in their history and culture and we are willing to share who we are with the rest of the country."
The workshops took place in the following communities:
March 17th - Tierra Amarilla
March 18th - Glorieta
March 19th - Taos
March 24th - Cerrillos
March 27th - Agua Fria
March 31 - Peñasco
We are currently reviewing all the rich information gathered at the workshops so check back soon to see what we learned!
We are also holding three more open houses to gather even more input.
Heritage Area Tourism Map
NRHNHA, Inc is partnering with the Española Valley Chamber of Commerce to print large-format maps showcasing tourist destinations. One side of the map will feature the Northern Rio Grande National Heritage Area and cultural and historical locations of interest to visitors. Sidebar text will point out relationships between culture and landscape to help visitors gain insight on the continuity of the past into the present.
