Park maintenance staff continue to work in the Stehekin Landing area removing debris from the wastewater treatment plant location. The planning team continues to work on the preferred interim design solution package for treatment operations in 2027 and will be seeking NPS/DOI approval for a preferred interim solution and funding to implement that solution.
June 5, 2026 – As of June 3, 2026, 700 feet of new emergency access road has been constructed, and 300 feet of existing road has been raised using 10,000 tons of rock.

There has been 8,706 tons of rock placed on the elevated interim road with approximately 4,500 tons remaining to be placed.
Planning for the long-term solution at Company Creel Road continues. A core team of specialists was established comprised of staff from the park and the NPS Regional Office, Environmental Quality Division, Denver Service Center and Western Federal Lands, Federal Highways Administration.
NPS staff are working on the project development and approvals process for an interim wastewater treatment system intended to be operational by the summer of 2027.
Chelan Public Utility District has restored electrical service. Park staff is working to reestablish power to the lift station following Chelan Public Utility District’s restoration of electrical services to the Landing.
March 5, 2026 – NPS funded an elevated interim road on federal land to partially rebuild Company Creek Road. NPS worked with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to develop a path for the elevated interim road through coordination with subject matter experts and an extensive design team. Construction by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on the interim road began in early March and is expected to be completed within a few weeks (as of 5/4/26).
Early January and ongoing, 2026 – National Park Service and Department of Interior staff visit on a weekly basis to continue assessment and planning effort for stabilization and public engagement. Ongoing visits continue during construction of the elevated interim road and for public engagement.
Mid-late December, 2025 – In coordination with community members, crews cleared landslide debris from roadways and repaired damaged culverts and road segments at Stehekin Landing and along multiple miles of Stehekin Valley Road.

December 10, 2025 – The Stehekin River experienced the second largest flood on record as part of a region-wide atmospheric river event.
Extensive damage occurred to the Stehekin Valley Road, including multiple landslides which damaged several sections of the road. The road was blocked for several days, initially restricting access to the Stehekin Landing.
Landslides deposited several feet of debris on the wastewater treatment plant drain field and destroyed the mechanical/systems building, limiting basic infrastructure at the Stehekin Landing.
There was a substantial geomorphic change in the lower Stehekin Valley as the Stehekin River shifted into its historic floodplain. River movement within its old channel destroyed approximately 100 feet section of Company Creek Road and a levee.
