Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument – This week’s National Park Getaway

FLORISSANT, Colo. – Imagine being transported into an ancient redwood forest. Trees as tall as skyscrapers surround you. You hear the shuffling of legs and hooves and are surprised to see a herd of three-toed horses, each animal the size of a small dog, running through the brush. Suddenly, the earth shakes, a nearby volcano begins to rumble…

At Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument, you can explore ancient Colorado as well as the beauty of the modern Rocky Mountains. Read more
