Natchez National Historical Park
For Kids

Hey Kids!,

Thanks for coming out this year to Junior Ranger Camp 07'. We had a lot of fun and enjoyed visiting the historical site's with our returning  junior rangers and our new ones as well. In case you missed it this year, here's a rundown of what happened.

On Monday's we stayed at Melrose where we learned about other national Parks, did a scavenger hunt around the estate and learned about the Natchez Trace Parkway.

Tuesday's found us playing "Little brother of War" (lacrosse) and taking our first field trip of the week. We headed up the Nathcez Trace to Mt. Locust. We learned how people lived and met Mr. Mike Fink. A man who use to travel the trace in the early 1800's.

We spent Wednesday's in downtown Natchez. Campers learned about the Freedman's schools that were started after the war and we visited the Historic Natchez photograph collection. For a craft activity, campers made a scrapbook  to put family photo's in.

We always seem to have a good time visiting Vicksburg. That's where we spent Thursday's. We did our "Join the Army" program near a confederate fort and learned about how steamship's and the railroad was an important part of the battle.

On Friday's we wrapped the week at Melrose. We learned about the history of baseball and about some famous players from Mississippi. We then played baseball and had a cookout with hotdog's and cracker jacks. We had the graduation ceremonies on the grounds and had cake for all the campers and their parents.

If you were unable to make it this year, keep us in mind for next June. We will be visiting local schools throughout the year.

From all of us ranger's

-Angie, Tim , Jessica, Nathan, Sharon , Tiffany , and Gerald. Thanks !
