Dwight D. Eisenhower and other Officers at Camp Colt Headquarters

Gettysburg, PA
Eisenhower's service as commander of a training camp during World War I was an important early assignment.  Camp Colt, Gettysburg, PA., was named after Samuel Colt, the inventor of the famous six-shot revolver.  The camp was established in March 1918 to provide training to recruits of the Army’s new Tank Corps.  It was Eisenhower first independent command. T
wo British officers familiar with tank warfare served as advisers at the camp.  This was Eisenhower’s first experience of working with Allies.
