The 1915 Howitzer Yearbook
1915
Ike's West Point yearbook. Eisenhower’s record as a student at West Point was not extraordinary but above average. On graduation, he ranked 61st out of a class of 164 academically. However, in conduct, Cadet Eisenhower was 125th in the class, having accumulated 211 demerits. His main motivations in seeking an appointment to the Point had been to acquire a free college education and to play college football. Despite these facts, the faculty at West Point recognized that Ike “was born to command.”
