President Franklin Delano Roosevelt selected General Eisenhower to lead the
invasion of France while Eisenhower was serving as the Allied Commander of
troops fighting in Italy. He officially informed Eisenhower of this decision in
early December 1943 when he paid a visit to Ike’s Headquarters in Sicily.
