Pink
The First Lady was very petite, 5 feet 4 inches tall and enviably thin. Her scale is one of numerous pink accessories found in her entirely pink bathroom. Pink was without question the first lady’s favorite color. She loved to wear it. In the morning, you might find her attired in a pink bed jacket, pink night gown, pink slippers, and pink hair bow. In the White House master bedroom there was a pink head board, sheets, covers, trash can, and furniture slipcovers. Pink even crept into the White House dining room: pink candles, napkins, and tablecloths. The staff referred to the Eisenhower White House as "The Pink Palace." US embassies around the world redecorated so that they had one pink bedroom set aside for a potential visit by the Presidential couple. Mamie’s penchant for pink turned “First Lady Pink” into one of the most popular colors of the fifties.
