Baby Grand Piano and Bench
1955
Made by Haines Brothers
The President wasn’t very musically inclined and only occasionally banged out a tune on the piano. But Mamie was a natural musician and played by ear. She enjoyed playing while the grandchildren gathered around to sing, and later while her great-grandchildren danced about the living room. Mamie relished her role as hostess and loved to entertain guests with her piano playing. Even on Ike’s meager lieutenant wages at Ft. Sam Houston, Mamie insisted they rent a piano for $5 a month.
