This vessel was formed by Maria Martinez and decorated by her son Popovi Da. Pronounced oy-yah, this style of pot was originally for carrying water and storing food. The matte-on-black style from San Ildefonso and Santa Clara Pueblos is well known. Ceramic. H 23.5, D 14.0 cm [ H 9 ¼, D 5 ½ inches]
