Santa Fe Black-on-white
Ancestral Pueblo
Pueblo III. AD 1175-1325
These sherds are from a pottery vessel that is one of the earliest ceramic types found within Bandelier National Monument. The pale designs are composed of an organic material, usually derived from the Rocky Mountain Bee Weed plant (Cleome serrulata). They are painted on the vessel before the single firing.
