Get out of the city. Unwind with Mother Nature. Hook delicious golden trout in ice-cold crystal-clear Sierra Nevada streams. This idyllic vision was almost within reach for thousands of Japanese Americans between 1942 and 1945—just beyond the barbed wire perimeter of Manzanar War Relocation Center.

On Labor Day weekend, Cory Shiozaki will bring Manzanar’s wartime fishing stories to life. Mr. Shiozaki will share stories of some of Manzanar’s well-known fishermen, who secretly escaped from camp under cover of darkness to fish some of the Eastern Sierra’s best local fishing holes. He will share examples of fishing tackle hand-made in camp, and answer visitors’ questions.
