Intern Sara MacDonald creating a news release for the park at the Public Information Office. She carved out her own internship opportunity by contacting the Volunteer Office and submitting her proposal.

Lowell National Historical Park is currently seeking volunteers and community service groups for a variety of needs. Interested individuals and service groups can help the park in a variety of ways:

• Work as a Volunteer Park Ranger. Greet park visitors and help people learn about the park story at the Visitor Center, and Boott Cotton Mills Museum

• Assist with special events, such as Lowell Summer Music Series, Lowell Folk Festival, Banjo and Fiddle Contest, and other park-city events

• Help maintain historic structures, keep grounds clean, and perform other maintenance tasks

• “Adopt-A-Canalway” and landscaping, gardening, and beautification projects

• Assist with administrative and clerical duties

• Help the park trolley crew greet riders, flag the trolley through road intersections, and move about through downtown Lowell

• Assist in the park library or help curatorial staff with classifying museum artifacts and mounting of exhibits

• Research Lowell history for programs, publications, and exhibit development

• Assist museum teachers in school programs at the Tsongas Industrial History Center
