Lowell National Historical Park has contributed a one of a kind, hand painted ornament as part of this year’s official White House Christmas tree.  “Holiday in the National Parks” has been selected as the theme highlighting the majesty, history, and diversity of the country’s 391 National Park Service sites.

Holiday Hours during the Holidays 2007
In observance of the upcoming holidays, Lowell National Historical Park Visitor Center will close early on Monday, December 24th at 2:00 pm and will remain closed all day on December 25, 2007.  Lowell National Historical Park Visitor Center will be open from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm on Monday, December 24, and will reopen at 9 am to 4:30 pm on Wednesday, December 26.   The park will also be closed on January 1, 2008, New Year’s Day.

Lowell  Canalwater Cleaners receive grants
Lowell  Canalwater Cleaners, a partner with Lowell National Historical Park is the proud recipient two grants totaling  $34,600 in their efforts to propel their anti-litter campaign at Lowell High School and purchase needed equipment to keep Lowell's canals clean.

On the Road comes home to Lowell Ma
On the Road: Jack Kerouac’s Original Scroll Manuscript and Exhibit opened Friday, June 15, 2007 at the Boott Cotton Mills Museum at Lowell National Historical Park.   This opening marks a summer full of celebrations to recognize the 50th anniversary of the publication of On the Road considered a modern classic among American novels.

2007 Jack Kerouace Scroll Exhibit
The Jack Kerouac On the Road, Original Scroll Manuscript and Exhibit will be at Lowell National Historical Park’s Boott Cotton Mills Museum Gallery, from June 15 through September 14, 2007.  The exhibit will coincide with the 50th anniversary of the publication of On the Road, recognized as a modern classic among American novels. This will be the only New England exhibit of this significant American literary artifact.

Tsongas Industrial History Center
Week–long summer day camp sessions are being offered by the Tsongas Industrial History Center, a hands-on education partnership between the University of Massachusetts Lowell and the Lowell National Historical Park located at the Boott Cotton Mill Museum in Lowell, Massachusetts.  Each camp runs Monday through Friday, 8:30 am-3:00 pm.  Summer camp programs are designed and staffed by professional educators from the University of Massachusetts Lowell and Lowell National Historical Park with a ratio of one staff member for each 8-10 children.

Doors Open Lowell
On May 17 through May 19, Lowell is throwing open its doors again during National Preservation Month.  Doors Open Lowell provides an inside look at over thirty of Lowell’s historic buildings, many not normally open to the public.  The buildings, located citywide, will be open Friday evening and during the day Saturday.

Did You Know?
There were female and male overseers in the mills of Lowell in the 19th century. In Rev. Henry Miles' book, Lowell As It Was, and As It Is, he mentions that the Boott Cotton Mills has recently opened a new weave room and it is being overseen by two women overseers.
