Fort to Sea Trail Update

Trail Status – Updated June 3, 2008

 

Fort to Sea Trail is Open!!

All trees have been cleared from the trail from Fort Clatsop Visitor Center to Sunset Beach.

Damage from the December 2 and 3, 2008 storm was extensive. The following occurred before the trail was open to the public:

  • A micro-burst (two bands of wind coming together) flattened the forest from Fort Clatsop Road to the Overlook.
  • Twenty-five logging truck loads of logs were taken from Fort Clatsop Road to Overlook section. 
  • Only the trail was cleared. Storm damage and downed trees by Fort Clatsop road will remained for the natural process. 
  • Highway 101 to Sunset Beach lost 193 trees to the storm.
  • Due to fire hazards of dead Shore Pine and other safety issues, Oregon State Parks cleared the Sunset Beach section.
  • For questions about the trail from highway 101 to Sunset Beach call Fort Stevens State Park.
  • For questions about the Fort to Sea Trail from Fort Clatsop Road to Highway 101 call Lewis and Clark National Historical Park (503) 861-2471.

Netul River Trail - Fort Clatsop  

Did You Know?
The Netul River Trail, which is located at Fort Clatsop, is 1 1/2 miles in length. It connects Fort Clatsop with Netul Landing.
