The Battle of Mills Springs, January 1862
The battle of Mills Springs was fought in Wayne and Pulaski Counties, Kentucky, on January 19, 1862 (just nine days after Col. James Garfield’s first battle at Middle Creek). The Union victory ended an early Confederate offensive in eastern Kentucky. The Mill Springs battlefield recently became one of the newest units of the National Park Service: Mill Springs Battlefield National Monument! Learn more about this lesser-known battle in 2021’s first “Leaders & Legacies” program! This live program will be delivered online by Park Ranger Rebecca Hayward on Wednesday, January 13 at 12:00 p.m. as part of the Leaders and Legacies series with Mentor Public Library. Though the program is online, registration is still required. The registration link can be accessed here: https://mentorpl.libcal.com/event/5734444S.
