Franklin D. Roosevelt built Top Cottage at the eastern most end of his estate. FDR imagined Top Cottage as a place where he could return to private life after his second term as president. When he was elected to an unprecedented third term in 1940, Roosevelt realized that the little retreat would be an excellent place to "escape the mob" at Springwood. more....

 
FDR Home Decorated for Christmas

HOLIDAY OPEN HOUSE

NEW FOR 2009 - The Home of Franklin D. Roosevelt NHS will be decorated for the Holiday's from December 5, 2009 through January 3, 2010.  There will be a Holiday Open House on Saturday, December 5th from 9:00am until 6:00pm.  Free Admission all day on the 5th only.  Refreshments in the Wallace Center provided by the National Archives and Records Administration.

Climate

Depending on the year Spring may arrive by early April in Hyde Park, gardens are in full bloom through May. Summers are generally sunny, warm, and may be humid, Autumn brings the fall foliage and crisp brillant days. Winters are tyically bright and clear with some snow.
