Resource Stewardship Scout Ranger Program


The Resource Stewardship Scout Ranger program is a national program which can be done in any national park, historic site, or monument in the national park system. It allows scouts to participate in educational and/or volunteer service projects at national park sites to inspire scouts to explore their parks and protect their natural and cultural resources. Scouts will be awarded for their participation by earning a certificate or badge. Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts are invited to participate in the program.



Requirements

To Earn a Certificate:
  • Must complete 5 hours
  • Hours may be volunteering or educational activities
  • May be done with troop or individually
  • Log on scout log sheet (receive from visitor center)
To Earn a Patch:
  • Must complete 10 Hours
  • Hours may be volunteering or educational activities
  • May be done with troop or individually
  • Log on scout log sheet (receive from visitor center)

Qualifying Activities at Great Sand Dunes:
  • Complete the Junior Ranger book
  • Attend a ranger program
  • Walk the Montville Nature Trail with the educational guide
  • Scheduled Education program for troop through education coordinator (must plan 3-4 weeks in advance)
  • Complete badge requirements at the park
  • Girl Scout Specific: bring your Journey series book to complete at Great Sand Dunes
