The Yaki Point Road and Kaibab Trail Parking Lot Closure (South Rim)

From March 1 to November 30
During the busy season, the Yaki Point Road and Kaibab Trail Parking Lot are CLOSED to private vehicle traffic. You will need to ride a shuttle bus to access this area. Private vehicle access to is permitted for vehicles with accessibility permits.

From December 1 to February 28
During the winter, the road to Yaki Point and the South Kaibab Trailhead parking lot
remain closed to private vehicles due to parking and road congestion.

The park’s free shuttle buses now provide visitors with access to Yaki Point and the South Kaibab Trailhead throughout the winter months.

From December through February the Village Shuttle Bus Route (blue route), which provides service throughout the Grand Canyon Village including Canyon View Visitor Center, park hotels, restaurants and gift shops – with connecting service to the South Kaibab Trailhead.

Every 30 minutes from 6:15 a.m. to 8:00 a.m.
Every 15 minutes from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Every 30 minutes from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

The Kaibab Trail Route (green route) provides access to Yaki Point and the South Kaibab Trailhead.

Every 15 minutes from 6:15 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Every 30 minutes from 5:00 p.m. to 7:15 p.m.

Parking at the South Kaibab Trailhead from December through February will be considered for overnight backpackers and visitors with a reservation at Phantom Ranch during the winter months on a case-by-case basis as determined by the park’s Backcountry Information Center.

Information and authorization for overnight parking at the trailhead can be obtained by stopping by or calling the Backcountry Information Center at (928) 638-7875 (Monday - Friday 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. MST). Please have your vehicle license plate information on hand prior to requesting parking at the South Kaibab Trailhead.

Accessibility Permits for Yaki Point and the South Kaibab Trailhead are also available to those with accessibility considerations and are available at visitor contact stations throughout the park. Those with resident stickers issued by the NPS will also be able to park overnight at the trailhead.
