FIELD TRIP PROGRAMS
Take your class on a ranger-led field trip to Grand Canyon National Park!
All education programs we provide are curriculum-based, and are free of charge. Details on the programs we offer can be found below.

For schools in Utah and the Arizona Strip, we offer limited programs on the North Rim (click here for details).

If you'd like to conduct your own education program without a ranger, go to the bottom of this page.

HOW TO REGISTER
Registration for field trip programs (for the 2009-2010 school year) is currently open.
- Fall 2009 Field Trip Programs available Sept. 21 - Dec. 11, 2009 (no programs Nov. 6, 11, 23-27).
- Spring 2010 Field Trip Programs available March 8 - May 28, 2010.

GEOLOGY PROGRAMS (click on program names to learn more)

Dynamic Earth
Unravel the mystery of how Grand Canyon was formed. Includes exploration of a fossil bed and a hike along the rim with several stops for engaging activities focusing on the geologic history of Grand Canyon.
Grade level: 4^th-6^th Duration: 5 hours

Grand Canyon Rocks!
Hike along the rim and discover the geologic processes that formed Grand Canyon through hands-on activities.
Grade level: 4^th-6^th Duration: 2 ½ hours

Stories in Stone
Use the tools of a paleontologist to discover clues preserved in the rocks of Grand Canyon. Hunt for fossils and learn what they tell us about the history of the Canyon’s formation.
Grade level: 3^rd-6^th Duration: 2 hours

NATURAL HISTORY PROGRAMS (click on program names to learn more)

Life on the Edge
Explore the plant and animal life that calls Grand Canyon home. Hike along the rim and learn forest and desert ecology through hands-on activities and games.
Grade level: 3^rd-5^th Duration: 5 hours

Eco Explorers
Through games, activities and journaling, students will learn about forest and desert ecology. This is a shortened version of Life on the Edge.
Grade level: 3rd-5th Duration: 2 ½ hours

HUMAN HISTORY PROGRAMS (click on program names to learn more)

Rails and Tales
Discover the people who have shaped Grand Canyon’s history. Walk through Grand Canyon Village, engage in interactive games, and learn about the changing ways people have valued the Canyon over time.
Grade level: 4^th-6^th Duration: 2 ½ hours

Time Travelers: Connecting to the Past
Become an archaeologist and unearth clues about Grand Canyon’s ancient inhabitants. Participate in an archaeological “dig”, explore ancient ruins and a museum, and climb the Desert View watchtower to learn about the native peoples that shaped Grand Canyon’s ancient history.
Grade level: 4^th-6^th Duration: 5 hours

Travel Grants

For schools with restricted travel budgets, we have a limited number of travel grants available. This offer applies to schools who are attending one of our education programs with at least 50% of their students on a free or reduced lunch program.

This grant is made possible by the Grand Canyon Association. Grant money will typically be distributed on the day of your program.

To apply, complete a Travel Grant form and fax it or mail it to our office (fax number and address are on the form).

CONDUCTING YOUR OWN EDUCATIONAL FIELD TRIP
If you are planning to bring your class to Grand Canyon for educational purposes, but our programs do not meet your educational needs, you may still be eligible to receive an entrance fee waiver for your group. To apply for a waiver, for further details.
