Ride the Ferry to Gustavus, Alaska

In summer, the ferry LeConte leaves Juneau for Gustavus twice weekly.

Since 2011, the Alaska Marine Highway ferry system has provided regular service from Juneau to Gustavus. The ferry trip varies in length depending on the specific ferry being used and the number of stops along the way. Expect the trip to last 4-6 hours. The ferry is a scenic journey, before booking weigh the benefit of this 'scenic route' versus the quick, yet weather-dependent, ~30 minute flight between Juneau and Gustavus.

Although this new option affords both visitors and residents many new opportunities to travel with a personal vehicle, you may not find all the services and amenities one might expect in other road-linked Alaska communities.

• Glacier Bay National Park is essentially roadless. Bartlett Cove is accessible by vehicle from Gustavus, but all other areas may only be reached on foot, by boat, or by small aircraft. Learn more about Gustavus and its offerings here.
• Taxis and rental car options are available in Gustavus. See the Gustavus Visitor's Association website.
• National Park facilities in Bartlett Cove were not designed to accommodate visitors with private vehicles, and parking may be limited at times.
• There is one primitive campground in the park. It is accessible on foot only.
• There are no RV facilities (sites/dump station/hookups/etc.) or vehicle camping areas within the park.
• Camping is not permitted in parking areas or along the park road.
