WEST GLACIER, MONT. – With the assistance of the National Park Service, inspectors from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), Montana Division, will be inspecting charter buses and other commercial motor vehicles in Glacier National Park July 13-16, 2009.  The operation involves mechanical inspection of vehicles by FMCSA Officers.

The purpose of the inspections is to help ensure public safety by reducing the potential for injuries or accidents.

Vehicles or drivers that are found to be in violation or not in compliance with federal or state law permit regulations or vehicle operation requirements could be put out of service.  The driver or company may also be subject to fines and/or permit revocation.

Commercial vehicle inspections are routinely held within national parks nationwide. Commercial companies and the public have been served well through the inspections, which help maintain public safety in the park and on the highways.

Grizzly bears

Did You Know?
Grizzly bears in the park have a wide variety of food sources, including glacier lily bulbs, insects, and berries. They may also make an early season meal of mountain goats that were swept down in avalanches over the winter.
