Visitors to Gates of the Arctic National Park and Preserve must come to the park prepared. Though USGS topographical maps show cabins located throughout the park, these are misleading. Many of these cabins date back to the goldrush days of the area and have fallen into disrepair. Cabin sites of this sort tell the human history of the arctic and should be viewed but not disturbed. Intact cabins are usually private property and should be treated with the respect they deserve. |
