The National Park Service works to protect, preserve, and foster appreciation of the cultural resources in its custody. These include archeological resources, cultural landscapes, ethnographic resources, historic and prehistoric structures, and museum collections. Celebrating and Preserving Wilderness Preservation is at the heart of the NPS mission, even more so at Gates of the Arctic. In the winter of 2014, twenty sled dogs and two kennels staff from Denali National Park & Preserve joined several staff from Gates of the Arctic and Yukon-Charley Rivers National Preserve in a collaborative effort to clean up a remote section of designated wilderness in Gates of the Arctic.
