One National Park, Two Forts in Charleston Harbor

Visitors travel to Fort Sumter, located at the entrance of Charleston Harbor, on ferries operated by Fort Sumter Tours. These ferries leave from two locations: Fort Sumter Visitor Center in downtown Charleston and Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum in Mount Pleasant. There is a fee for riding the ferry. Private vessels may not dock at Fort Sumter.

Getting to the Ferry Ride for Fort Sumter

Fort Sumter Visitor Center, downtown Charleston: Visitors can find parking in a City of Charleston parking garage (fees apply) at 24 Calhoun Street, just steps away from the entrance to Liberty Square. There is a seven-foot height restriction for the garage. Public transportation is also available via the Charleston Area Regional Transit Authority (CARTA).

Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum, Mount Pleasant: Visitors can find parking onsite; there is a flat-rate charge for parking. Visitors traveling in RVs or other large vehicles are encouraged to depart from Patriots Point to visit Fort Sumter.

Driving to to Fort Moultrie

Fort Moultrie is is accessible by car, and there is parking at the visitor center. There is limited bus, RV, and large vehicle parking.

Please note: You cannot get to Fort Sumter from Fort Moultrie.
